BIOGRAPHY

Ader was born in Wareham, Massachusetts. She was one of the sisterhood of pioneer female jockeys in 1969. Not as well known as some of the other riders, she still managed a couple of firsts. She was the first female who rode in Illinois, at Arlington Park and if not the first in Maryland at least the first at Bowie Race Course.

Ader's career only lasted a few years, but she made the most of it, riding at twelve different tracks in ten states. She was also part of Bill Veeck's Lady Godiva Handicap, featuring the top lady jockeys of the day. Don't know if this was another first for the ladies but she drew a seven day suspension while riding at Green Mountain Park.

Another, I don't know if it's more of an oddity than a first, she rode at more tracks that are now gone or don't race thoroughbreds than one's that are still kicking.
